Roger Brown
Case Study
Roger Brown is a 30-year-old black male arrested for aggravated assault. Roger was originally placed on 5 years’ probation for possession of crack cocaine in January 2022. Roger has a history of mental health disorders and has been on the mental health probation case load previously. Roger has a long history of being on and off his psychotropic medication. Roger was off his medication during the last incident when he was arrested. Roger is currently on a high level of supervision reporting twice monthly to probation officials. Roger has been reporting as instructed and available for home visits, as required.
Roger was hanging out at a local convenience store when he got into a verbal argument with another male at the store. The subject of the argument is unknown to officials at this time. The store owner came out and asked both men to leave the premises. Roger refused and began to argue with the store owner, as well. Roger became combative and struck the store owner with his backpack. The owner fell, hit his head on a concrete, and suffered a head injury requiring 25 stitches. Roger ran away from the scene. Roger was arrested a week later by police at his probation appointment.
Roger is currently employed as a construction worker (11 months) and living at home with his mother. Roger’s mother is currently unemployed. Roger’s mother reports he does well at home and does not give her any problems. She reports he pays most of the bills for there household. However, the neighbors report there are often loud arguments and the smell of marijuana coming from the backyard.
Roger does not have a GED or HS diploma. Roger did complete a city sponsored program that helped him get the job in construction. Roger’s boss reports Roger is a good employee and has not missed a day of work. Roger is married but is currently separated from his wife and child at this time. Roger is also non-compliant with a child support order and in arrears for 6,000 dollars. Roger has had no contact with his wife or child.
Roger did test positive for THC and trace amounts of PCP when given a drug test at the probation department. This will be his first time testing positive for drugs. Roger has been going to see his MH counselor and psychiatrist but has been dishonest about taking his required medications. Rogers’s labs report he has not taken his meds in quite some time.
