PHE 350 – Spring 2024 Final Team Paper Grading Rubric

When reading your papers and assigning points per the grading criteria, I will be asking the following questions to determine the number of points awarded per section:

• Organization o Is the paper structured so that it is easy to follow? o Is there a clear thesis/premise guiding the paper? o Is the paper clearly presented with the use of appropriate headings?

• Thoroughness o Does the paper have a well-grounded basis for the conclusions drawn? o Are the facts appropriately supported via citations?

• Accuracy o Are the statements factual? o Is the literature summarized completely and correctly? o Are the facts attributed to the citations correctly?

• Logical Flow o Do the conclusions follow the evidence presented in the paper?

• Clarity o Is the purpose of the paper clear? o Is the paper grammatically correct and free of spelling errors? o Are citations constructed using APA citation format?

The Problem

Clearly identifies & explains the problem, including who is affected and why it matters

• The problem should be something that is related to

health systems and should be clearly defined. • Who is affected? • Why does it matter? • What makes it problematic?

The Reform Intervention

Identifies the intervention and explains which part of health

• Indicates a clear intervention (i.e. reform) • Where does the reform work within the health

system most directly? • Are there other areas of the health system that

the reform influences? (You will discuss these later)

Background

Provides relevant background on reform & description of what it is

• Where did the reform come from? • Does it exist in some form already or is it brand

new? • How does the reform work?

Outcomes

Describes intended outcome(s) of the reform

• What are the expected outcomes? • How will the outcomes address the problem

described?

Interactions

Discusses how the reform interacts with other parts of the health system

• How will the outcomes you described impact

other aspects of the health system? (e.g. how will an reform intervention intended to address issues of workforce affect health care cost or quality, etc.)

Barriers/Limitations

Discusses potential limitations/barriers to the reform

• Are there ways in which the reform may not be

successful? • What are its limitations and/or challenges to

implementation of the reform?

Citations/References

• At least 8 references included, no more than 3

from previously assigned course material • In-text citations and reference list should be

formatted consistently and correctly • APA format has been used

Spelling, Grammar, Quality of writing

• Paper should be free from spelling & grammar

errors • Sentences should be clear and coherent

• The paper should flow like one coherent document from section to section as though it was written by only one voice

• Logic should be intuitive and easy to follow • Within word count range

5% for each date late, papers will not be accepted after 4rd day

-3 pts per late day (5%)

Note: Individual final paper grades may reflect peer evaluation feedback, however students should expect to receive the same grade on the assignment. Requests for changes to individual grades will be ignored.
