For this assignment, you will complete a community risk reduction (CRR) assessment as well as a department assessment. To prepare for writing these assessments, it is recommended that you review the Required Unit Resources-refer to Chapter 20 and Chapter 24 in your textbook, as well as the . Also, you will need to write a vision statement and a mission statement.

These are briefly described in the unit lesson. Also, vision statements are discussed in the textbook in Chapter 24’s “Creating the department’s ideal future through proactive futuring” section, while mission statements are discussed in the textbook in Chapter 2’s “Establishing direction” section and in Chapter 24’s “Developing the mission of the fire department” section. You can also search for websites that provide additional information about developing mission and vision statements.

Begin your assignment with a title page that includes the name of your community and the words Department and Community Risk Reduction Assessments. Include a reference page at the end that lists all resources from which you obtained information in correct APA format.

Your assignment will consist of the four parts described below. Complete all parts separately; then combine them into one document. Ensure that the four parts are clearly identified as Part I, Part II, Part III, and Part IV.

Part I: Mission and Vision Statements

Include a new or revised mission statement for your organization as well as a vision statement for your department. The mission statement and vision statement can be on the same page.

Part II: Strategic Planning

This part will explain how your CRR assessment can support your department’s strategic planning. Part II should be at least one-half page, single-spaced.

Part III-Assessment of Your Department

Include section headers to identify each of the following areas. Write your content using proper paragraph format, including bullet points as appropriate. Part III should be at least three full pages, single-spaced, and must address the following:

Emphasis on safety and health and reducing risks

Explain what is done to ensure that firefighter safety and health as well as risk reduction are primary values of the department. Provide suggestions to enhance these as primary values.

Explain how your department ensures that every member understands and complies with the department’s emphasis on safety and health and risk reduction. Provide suggestions to enhance how this is accomplished.

• Responsibility for advocating safety policies and procedures
• Explain how your department ensures that all officers understand their personal responsibility to advocate the department’s safety policies and procedures. Provide suggestions to enhance this understanding.
• Accountability for compliance with health and safety policies
• Explain how your department members are held accountable for compliance with the department’s health and safety policies. Provide suggestions to improve how this is done.
• Fire Chief’s acceptance of responsibility for reducing department risks
• Explain how the fire chief has demonstrated acceptance of the responsibility for reducing risks within the department.
• Explain what you would do to as fire chief to demonstrate this.
• Part IV-Community Risk Assessment
